Deceased Name: BERNARD ELEVITCH Bernard Elevitch of Brookline, Mass., former Boston
University Professor, died on Saturday, March 21, 2009, at the Brigham &
Women's Hospital in Boston, at the age of 81. He was born in Duluth, Minn. Mr. Elevitch received his Bachelor's Degree in Romance
languages and his Master's in Philosophy from the University of Minnesota in
Minneapolis. His Ph.D in Philosophy was awarded by Columbia University
in 1961. He joined the Boston University Philosophy Department in 1968,
specializing in Modern Philosophy, Ethics and philosophy of Mind and serving
as Associate Chairman from 1990 until his retirement as professor Emeritus in
1995. Previously, he had taught at the University of Massachusetts-Boston and
at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. Mr. Elevitch published
articles, essays and reviews in Philosophical, Psychological and Literary
journals. He edited a volume of articles, Philosophy of Mind, published in
2000. He leaves a nephew and two nieces, Nikolas, Ilena and
Kathrin Elevitch of New York City, NY. SERVICES: will be private. There will be no memorial
observance. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be sent to
